Today is my last day in the Louisiana, we fly back to Ukiah tomorrow. I woke up early and walked along the waters edge behind the house. There was a mist lying low over the bayou. It is cold here. It is a wilderness. I imagined what it was like when the 20 foot wall of water rose up from Lake Ponchartrain and flooded this whole area. Everything is so calm and still, it's hard to believe it happened. When I turn Read More...

Found
this among some old email forward's from Elaine. Some
of Meg's

Greetings:
Somewhere in the heart of Texas, heading back
from Louisiana, probably my last trip. Been a
short stop with old friends, sharing the money and
goods that Missoulians have so generously sent
to the people of New Orleans. In many ways a
sad trip. I sense fatigue, despair in the
people there that I have not felt before. Little
things like the port-a-pottys aren't being cleaned
out downtown so they are filthy and foul. The
people from the Lower Ninth Ward and St.Bernards are
so conflicted, some want to rebuild, but don't know
if Read

Here reporting in from Campland o Peace in
Slidell,La.My time here is coming to a close and I
could stay forever as there is so much to do every
day.I don't want to go.The need is immense but one
does notice from time to time suttle changes as piles
of rubbage become smaller and trees are lifted off
homes, teams of people going in to gut out and help
folks start over.Poverty levels are worst than ever
for those who have nothing and are old and sick or
whatever thei Read

From Niki -- The House is Buras

Hey
there good folks,
An interesting thing about this home in Buras that seems to be
THE LAST HOME standing is----it was built by Red Cross after Camille
devastated the same town. A few others had been built there as well but
the family said they had been demolished by other houses and what have
you (trees, cars, refrigerators, things like that) crashing in on them.
This Family home had nothing on it except some old Easter Bunny figures
on the outer wall and a decorative wreath (not Christmas) on the back Read More...

Happy
New Year to ya -- May it bring you good health and
good
cheer! Thank you and Richard for your help in getting us to Buras and
Venice. The only help that seemed to be needed at the Temple in Bell
Chase was dry goods.... We were not able to get through the check point
on Sunday so we retuned Mon. Went to Venice but was not able to make
any contact there -- thats not true -- we did talk to a young lady who
ha been down here since early Sept. She is an EMT and has been hired by
the Parish. She is an incredible young women and a good resource. We

Hello
everyone from Camp Land O Peace,My affectionate name
for the United Peace Relief Camp in Sliddell, La.
It has been a full life since my feet have touched the ground Dec. 30th. I was warmly greeted at the airport by Nikki and Carol with lots of love and laughter as we waited for my heavy luggage to come around thru baggage. My trip into camp was incredible as the highways are lined with broken homes upturned cars and and mountains of garbage as Read More...
