01/29/2006 18:02
Our
benefit was a smashing success, The Saturday
Afternoon Club was packed with old friends and new
,Everyone so full of life and Joy , so generous and
giving in support of Our efforts in our organization
United Peace Relief born out of the rubble of
Hurricane Katrina from right here in Mendocino County
a vision made possible by the belief in what could be
possible and with our new family that we met thru VFP
Camp we gained incredible friendships and work force
to continue this volunteer effort from Sliddell,
La.,Camp Land O Peace offering oppurtunities to help
those who need a helping hand and heart to rebuild
their lives. The music played into the night as
everyone danced ate Cajun food and sampled some of the
finest wines and brews that are produced right here In
Mendo. Local merchants gave so generously of the wares
from their stores from exotic to Vacations to coffee
and quilts. Ronald whom we moved from LA to Ukiah with
the loving support of this Community made some of the
best Cajun Seafood Gumbo and ran the kitchen like a
pro.Later in the evening he gave gratitude to everyone
for giving him a chance to start his life over. We
shared our experiences with pictures and stories into
the wee hours.Volunteers who had been to our Camp as
well as Covington came to encourage folks to continue
the volunteer flow as we need folks to keep
participating in the rebuilding efforts . Every
individual who has made the journey has had their
lives changed in a moving and powerful way. Giving
Thanks to all , We could'nt do it without you. This an
old Cherokee Prayer:Speak to me of Serenity,of
treasures yet to be found ,of Peace that flows like a
river.Tell me of tranquil places that no hand has
marred, no storm has scarred.Give me visions of
standing in sunlight or the feeling of Spring mist
against my cheek as I live move and breathe.Show me
paths that wind thru wild lilies and beds of
buttercups, sing me songs of the raven and
meadowlarks, gentle cows and mother call of the mare to
her colt.
Lead me to a place in the sunlight to sit and think
and listen to the inner voice that says so quietly
"Peace,be still." To hi ge se s di ...... Peace on
Earth. Thank you , In Solidarity....PollyLynn
