9/13/06 - Latest update from Lynn and Deborah in
Mulege.
Hola Amigos.
I am sitting here in the hospital in Mulege. It is a humble little ospital that was flooded to 3 feet on Sept. 2. Deborah and I have our otor home parked out front. We are hooked up to the electricity and have a cozy little spot on the narrow street in front of the hospital. Everyone is so glad that we are here helping. I am sure it gives them hope that hey will dig their way out of this mess and soon get back to normal.
This morning I went to work in the Urgencias/Emergencies/Clinica. I aw one patient after another very rapidly. All of my Doctor/PA riends can eat their hearts out when they hear that I did not have to chart a hing! I was working with Dr. Mesa and he said that in this disaster they gave p trying to chart anything. All of the charts stored 3 feet and down ere under water. They have no paper. What a dream to take care of problems and o paper work. This is a free public hospital. The pharmacy is open nd we just give out the medicine to who ever needs it, including mericans.
I did three prenatal visits, one on a woman with twins! Many skin nfections and wounds. One woman had a laceration that needed suturing. They did not have the sterile tools I needed so I went out to the RV and got one of the isposable suture kits we use in our hospital. The nurse and Dr. Mesa ere so impressed and of course they want the same for this hospital. I titched up the patient and sent her on her way. Dr. Mesa was not amiliar with the profession of Physician Assistant. At the end of the day he said You can do anything!". All of my experience in the ER made this work easy or me and I am proud to set a good example for all of the PA?s in the orld.
Meanwhile Deborah was outside working so hard with two of the hospital orkers. They were doing the incredibly yucky job of cleaning the mud ff of all of the hospital equipment and furniture. The mud is verywhere. We get so dirty and grimy. They were out in the humid heat covered in ud scrubbing away. I felt sorry for her, and a bit guilty with me in the ir conditioned clinic. Tonight I am going to take her out to dinner in ne of the two open restaurants in Mulege.
When we were traveling down we made the decision to purchase a pressure washer, and we donated it to the disaster relief center in Santa osalia. As soon as Dr. Espinoza, the director of this hospital heard bout the machine he asked us to bring it to clean the hospital. Today Tim from he Manhatten Beach Sister City Committee came down with the machine nd Deborah is out in front of the hospital pressure washing right now. omorrow we want to clean the whole hospital!
How thankful Deborah and I are to be here giving service. Thank you to all of the supporters of United Peace Relief, the Manhatten Beach ister City Committee (Sisters) and the Manhatten Beach Rotary Club. The isters have raised more money, so we are making a list with Dr. Espinosa of he needs of the hospital. They need mattresses, paper, paint, a computer, rinter, file cabinets, just to start. All of these things were lost in the lood. If you want to make a donation you can send money through our website t unitedpeacerelief.org, or through the mail at United Peace Relief, PO ox 933, Ukiah, CA 95482.
Love to all.
