Polly's Journal - January 6

Hello everyone from Camp Land O Peace,My affectionate name for the United Peace Relief Camp in Sliddell, La.
It has been a full life since my feet have touched the ground Dec. 30th.  I was warmly greeted at the airport by Nikki and Carol with lots of love and laughter as we waited for my heavy luggage to come around thru baggage.  My trip into camp was incredible as the highways are lined with broken homes upturned cars and and mountains of garbage as far as the eye can see for miles. The camp is nestled on the bayou and is so beautiful and calm amongst the chaos. The camp is full of volunteers from all over the States with more coming.  Arriving was incredible and immediately met with the owner Kevin and we started talking plans for the camp present and future. Soon familar faces started to trickle in, folks I had worked with in Covington. We had  a fabulous dinner and bonfire and off to bed.We celebrated New Years with a mello day of cooking great food and working around camp. I immediately started in on the telephone linking up to the folks I had been working with previously Mama D, Common Ground, United Houma nation,Lost Childrens project etc......but my first meeting was with Ronald whom we are relocating to Ukiah shortly. He is a good man and I know he will do well. The rest of the time I have spent with Mama D at her house in the 7th ward organizing her free store and being there for her as she is stressed and starting to show it. She is a warrior woman fiercely protective of her neighborhood and does not allow much time for herself.  I also started right in on my Random Acts of Cookies and make a smile and some big love happen wherever I go. I will continue to go to Mamas house as well as a few other projects.  Lost Childrens Project is a tuffie dealing with parents who are searching for their kids,  thru database and phonecalls. Camp Land O Peace is a great place, we have a wonderful group of people here at the moment and I am so enjoying all of them. Kate,Yvette,Lisa, Carol and I have been running hard together working hard to bring love and support to folks we come into contact with. Next project tomorow is to finnish up at Mama Ds in the morning and head over to the Bernard Parish the other half of day to cook at the Love Cafe where the lines for meals is 200 long for each part of day. I am so glad to be here with my other family being of service. Lovingly, PollyLynn P.s> We are going to a protest tomorow with Mama as they have illegally begun to bulldoze homes. We will stand with all communities in Solidarity.
