Subject: On our way home

Hi Everybody
Just a short note to say that we have started the journey north.  We are in Santa Rosalia making plans
with Tim from the Manhatten Beach Sister City Committee.  They have received a donation of
$15,000 from the International Communities foundation, to help with the recovery from Hurricane
John.  It has been decided that $10,000 is going to go to the hospital in Mulege.  This has been an
incredible experience. Deborah and I have stories to tell, so stay tuned.  We hope to arrive in San
Diego Saturday night and return to Ukiah late Sunday.

Saw patients, Deborah made some cake for us to give to the hospital for our little going away party
She set up the last of our clothing and shoes to give away.  We had a bag of cleats and a soccer ball
which we gave to Dr. Meza and Jorge who are big soccer fans and were delighted!  Dr. Espinoza sent
us out to meet a young diabetic boy who is insulin dependent.  I met with his mom who showed me
his home blood sugar test kit, but said they had not strips and the last time they tested his blood
sugar was a month ago.  We put diabetic test strips on the purchase list.  that is an ongoing problem
with the diabetics in Mulege, no test strips. Drove to Santa Rosalia , firmed up purchase list with Tim
Drove to Viscaino and pulled over to sleep and got stuck in the sand.  Had to dig ourselves out in the
dark, then this evangelical christian man came over and asked us what we were doing there and took
us to park in his courtyard for the night so we would be safe.  It was independence day for Mexico
the next day so there was a big party all night with very loud music very close to our camper and we
could not sleep.  As soon as the loud music stopped in the wee hours of the morning and I finally
thought I could sleep a rooster started crowing right next to my window.  We got up early and
started driving.

Sat 16 Visciano to San Diego
Drove all day.  The camper runs like a dream.  We stopped in Santa Rosalia to do a little shopping
and ended up in a candy store with the most fantastic sweets you have ever seen.  We must have
been starving because we went crazy and spent all our money on weird fabulous sweets, we did
manage to grab two great tacos at a busy stand.  We drove to San Diego eating macaroons and
sweets the whole way, pigged out on junk food.

Sunday 17 San Diego to Ukiah
Drove to Manhatten Beach met Mariano from the Sisters, got reimbursed for our expenditures and
got home at midnight.
