Update from Deborah Capraro

A couple of people told
me they could no
longer open the article. I guess the paper archived it with the only way to
get to it is to pay. What can I say? Capitalism, capitalism, capitalism.
When I found out, I just added it to the web page so you can also get it
there but I've attached it here for you as well - by all means add it to
your journal! I'd be honored!
I drove back down for a week on October 15th with another group that had
worked out a deal with a hotel for free rooms for a limited number of
volunteers for 2 months and I got on the list! It was rebuilding work and I
have to say I should have gone to Habitat's Musician's Village and learned a
few things before I tackled that! One thing I do know is I suck at
mudding!! We worked with some NYC firefighters. That was interesting. But
I did get to spend a lot
of time with the couple on whose house we worked and that was a different
kind of life-changing experience so it was all good. I'm going to put a
few
pictures up and write about that experience soon.
I'm in the process of applying for jobs in NOLA. I've decided that's where
I want to be and where I can do the most good with my life right now. Keep
your fingers crossed for me!! If that doesn't pan out, I'm trying to figure
out how I can go back in February for a longer time (got to scrape the
pennies together!). My husband is going away on business for 4 months so
I'll have to find someplace that will accept me and my little 9-month old
puppy - hence the job search. There's just no way I could afford to board
her for that amount of time. I'm working on it!
So good to hear from you again! Have a great holiday season,
Deborah
